So today the 3rd Jan is my birthday (38!!!). I decided to take a ride from Glasshouses up to Cold Stones Cut which whilst not far away is up hill all the way for the 5 miles or so. However after a good start it wasn't too long before I heard the dreaded hiss coming from my front tyre and before I knew it the tyre was flat. I decided to push on up the hill (on foot) for another 10 minutes or so before fixing the flat. As I climbed higher the wind got stronger so before I reached the summit I decided it was time to fix the tyre. This is my first puncture on this bike (Boardman cyclocross) as it's was only my 2nd real ride but I'm not too impressed with the standard tyres despite them saying they have kevlar protection. So I pulled off into a sheltered spot and proceeded to fix the flat only to discover that it was too cold for my repair kit glue to work and I'd also picked up the wrong pump in my haste to leave the house! Bugger!. Nevermind it was a pleasant walk home and I had the opportunity to check out 'Fish Pond' Wood on the way down which was a nice find. So some lessons learned today....give the tyres another chance before thinking about replacing and to ensure I've got the right kit next time before heading out!!!
